Dove Cresswell - Animal Trainer Working In Films and Television

Dove Cresswell is one of the more interesting animal trainers around. Why? Because she works in television and films coaching animals to perform according to the script. You may know some of the films she's worked on - Space Buddies, The X Files: I Want to Believe, Cats and Dogs 2, Saved! and Sam’s Lake. She's also worked on the TV programs Romeo, Behind the Camera: Charlie's Angels, and Cougar Crossings.

It's not just dogs that she's trained. She's also trained large reptiles, cougars, rodents, birds, cockroaches and deer. She's trained all kinds of dog breeds and all sizes. She can train dogs up to Master's level in the Agility sport. That’s very impressive for a twenty-five year old.

Her interest with dog training started with her labrador puppy that she took to obedience classes and then spent hours training him in her back yard to do tricks and to make his way through an obstacle course.

She was a volunteer at the {Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals|SPCA}. At 16 she started volunteering at an animal hospital and by 17 she was a paid member of staff there.

She did a BA in Science-Biology and got into films by chance working on a docu-drama Cougar Crossings where she proved she could work with juvenile cougars.

At present she volunteers with That'll Do Border Collie Rescue. Her own dogs are a Border Collie, an Australian Shepherd, and a mini Poodle x.

If you’re worried that animals {are mistreated|don't enjoy their time} on film sets, Dove lets us know that they do enjoy making films and that there’s lots of fun in between takes! In USA , all animal trainers in films and TV are watched by the American Humane Association.

Do you want to see your dog in films? If so, you'd better be certain it's highly trained in obedience. Dove looks for dogs competing in Agility or Obedience because they're already well trained.

Dove has worked with some of the top dog trainers and taken the most useful methods out of all of them. Based upon her experience and study she created her own training course for dogs. It uses the very same methods she uses to train animals for their film roles. You can be sure she gets results because film directors aren't very tolerant of animal trainers that don't produce the results.
