Learn How to Properly Train Your New Puppy With Simple Tips

Learning proper puppy obedience training can lead to a long lasting relationship with your "best friend". Dogs are great to be around. They can bring you a lot of joy and value. Dogs can give you companionship, exercise, and a great deal of fun. They can also provide some challenges.

One of the biggest challenges for any dog owner is training a new puppy. This may take considerable time and commitment. Staying patient is very important. Staying commited can be very rewarding in the end, though. After you have trained your puppy you will have a lifelong friend. There are several commands that someone who starts puppy obedience training for the first time must know.

It is obvious that the first command you want to teach is the dog's name. This will come easily with a lot of consistency and practice. Make sure you call his name clearly and make eye contact. This tells the dog that you are speaking to them. Just stay consistent and the dog will begin to respond shortly.

The next command you want to teach is "sit". All of your training stems from this. Many people try and get the dog to sit just by saying the command several times. This is not a very good approach. Your dog can not speak English so they will not know what you are saying. A way that works better is to guide your dog into the sitting position at the same time you use the command 'sit'. This correlates the word with the action you want done. Once they are in the sitting position, make sure you reward the dog with a treat. This gives them positive reinforcement for their actions. Again, like everything else in puppy obedience training, it just takes time and consistency.

"Come" is the next command that you want to teach. This is important because you always want to be able to control your dog because there will be times that he is off the leash. Starting with your dog on a leash is an easy way to do that. Use the command "sit" and walk as far away as you can while holding the leash. Once you are away, say 'come' while at the same time, pulling the dog toward you with the leash. After doing this several times, you should be able to walk away from the dog, use the command, and they will come.

These are some of the basic commands to get you started on training your new puppy. Your dog will become a lifelong friend after a while.
