A former pottery shed in west Bibb County may be turned into a dog kennel.

A conditional-use permit, being sought to allow the kennel on three acres at 3805 S. Lizella Road, is on Monday's agenda for the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission meeting. The property is in an agricultural district, and other properties in the area are zoned agricultural with residential uses.

The existing 7,500-square-foot building would be modified by removing the existing front metal gables and the metal awning, according to the commission's staff report. The roof would be painted and stucco applied to the outside of the building. A 6-foot, chain-link fence will surround the property with surveillance cameras, according to the report.

The facility would provide boarding for cats and dogs with grooming and training provided, the staff report stated. read more
